But the reverse is also true. Taking it up due to peer pressure can lead the subconscious to believe it needs smoking in stressful situations, resulting in psychological dependence. Often underlying these needs are issues of anxiety and low self-esteem.
Hypnotherapy is able to address these issues and change beliefs into more positive ones to aid in quitting smoking. Hypnotherapy is only an aid and will only work if you are motivated to quit smoking and willing to face any issues preventing you from quitting. You will need to be prepared to make changes in areas of your life to accomplish this so that quitting becomes permanent.
Hypnotherapy may also help in any withdrawal symptoms and cravings.
The treatment programme of a 2hr session works well where smoking has become a habit. There is an initial free 15 min telephone consultation to assess whether Hypnotherapy would be suitable. The first part of the session consists of an assessment of your smoking habits, beliefs behind smoking, motivation and emotional issues. The “when, where and why” of the smoking pattern are looked at in depth. We will work together to come up with ways of changing these. The second half of the session involves Hypnotherapy which will address any issues discussed.
I also offer a course of 1 hour sessions if I believe there is more underlying the smoking. I would use a mixture of EFT and hypnotherapy.
